An Introduction: Stand for Children

Yesterday, we profiled Democrats for Education Reform, but they are not alone.  Another group doing incredible work nationally on the education reform front, and many other fronts too, is Stand for Children.  In their own words:

Stand for Children is an innovative, grassroots child advocacy organization. Our mission is to use the power of grassroots action to help all children get the excellent public education and strong support they need to thrive.

Please check out Stand for Children and support them if you can.

Several months ago we were lucky enough to attend a lunch with the new California Director of a great education reform group: Democrats for Education Reform. Former State Senator Gloria Romero is truly leading the charge in the state to marry politics and education reform. You can read about Democrats for Education Reform on their blog. Check it out and we’ll bring you updates worth reposting here.

As charter schools continue to show results, the question about how to distribute tax dollars equitably continues to be a front-burner issue.  Ken Moore, who serves as the Board Chair for Bullis Charter School in Los Altos wrote in the Mercury News about Bullis’ plight to be included in the Los Altos School District parcel tax this May.

In this week’s Los Altos Town Crier, we learn more about the parcel tax campaign in Los Altos.

Politics and Education Reform

As we look to help move the education reform agenda forward in San Jose and Silicon Valley, we find it instructive to read what former Washington, D.C. Chancellor Michelle Rhee had to say in Newsweek last year.

What I’ve Learned:  We can’t keep politics out of school reform. Why I’m launching a national movement to transform education.
